Greetings to all our Friends:
So much has happened since our last news letter. The Short-Term Team Ministry side of Child Beyond International (CBI) has really began to flourish and there have been eight mission teams from many areas of the United States visit this year with several more schedule in the fall. This summer was very busy. Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Fremont California came down and hosted a very fun and energetic “Gospel minded Sports Camp”. Ascension Lutheran-Portland, Oregon shared the gospel with over 100 ofGod’s preciouskids for a full week of VBS. Redeemer Lutheran Church from Fresno, California built a new house for a family in need. As you can see, there are many different ways to be able to share the love of Christ here in Guatemala. Use your imagination, your abilities, and
the gifts God has given you and the sky is the limit! Our Guatemalan team leaders are great at organizing and helping all to have a wonderful and safe mission experience.
In July a team of 13 teens and 5 adults from Immanuel Lutheran Church of Hood River, Oregon went on a seven day mission trip. While there they built a house for a family in need, held Bible School at a public school for 500 children and painted a preschool. We also took down 16 large suit-cases filled with needed children’s clothes, shoes and supplies. Like always, this was a life changing trip for our teens. When asked what was the biggest downer of the trip, all agreed it was having to leave Guatemala. Adults and teens were truly blessed, as will you be, if you are able to go on a mission trip to Guatemala. You also will be privileged to visit the Children’s Home where you will be surrounded by the love of our little ones. You will be blessed!
CBI hosted our first golf fund raiser on August 1st here in Hood River, Oregon.
We were so grateful to our local merchants. We received many wonderful donor gifts and several dozen sponsorships. We had 14 teams who had great fun playing 9 holes of golf at the Hood River Country Club. They golfed, they laughed, they ate, they won prizes and all while supporting our Children’s Home inGuatemala! Join us next year!
The Children’s Home is thriving despite the pesky cold that is being shared by the children and some of the nannies. Please keep them in your prayers. We have just received a precious 8 month old baby girl named Estrellita and a 10 month old little boy named Selby. Please keep both of these children in your daily prayers, as the transition into our home, no matter how loving and safe is a difficult one for these precious babies when they first come to us. As we continue to follow God’s guidance in this wonderful adventure we ask for your prayers for the Children’s Home and staff, the Short- term Mission Teams and staff and the guidance and discernment for our Board of Directors. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27
We would like to share a bit about one of our friends who works at a car rental company. He found the book “The Orphan’s Journey to Life” a book about the ministry of ChildBeyond International which had been left in the trunk a rental car. After reading it, he was moved to join in this ministry but all he could afford was $2.00 per month. He gave what he had at the time and he is now a full monthly child sponsor. It’s just like the boy with the few loaves of bread and a couple of fish, which the Lord Jesus used to feed many people. He blessed this man’s faith for His glory. If you don’t have a copy of this book let us know and we would be happy to send you a free copy.
